What to do if you are involved in a road traffic accident?
.
As you are aware, we are all currently dealing with the government recommended Covid 19 restrictions limiting our movements and interactions at this time. This has resulted in “flattening of the curve” which we are all worked so hard to achieve and continue to do so. A knock-on benefit of the current restrictions was the reduction in the number of road traffic accidents and other personal injuries accidents due to our changed daily lives. As Solicitors we are seeing the affect of this.
However, accidents are still happening, and should you be unfortunate enough to be involved in any such road traffic accidents, work place accident or public liability accidents, then it is important that you are aware of the procedures involved.
If you have been involved in any such accident, there are a number of steps you can take:
a. Take a photo of the accident location on your phone – before any of the cars are moved
b. ensure that An Garda Siochana attend at the scene of any road traffic accident so that we will be in a position to call on their evidence at a later stage, with respect to the person you hold responsible for the accident.
c. Do not state that you were the cause of the accident, you may be in shock and not recall exactly what occurred
d. if you are injured as a result of the accident it is most important that you attend with your GP as soon as possible so that you can receive the required medical assistance following your accident and also so that your GP is in a position to provide a medical report for any application to PIAB, with respect to your claim for compensation.
The Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) is an independent statutory body set up to provide an independent assessment of Personal Injury claims for compensation following the above accidents.
The offices of Donal T. Ryan Solicitors are available to explain the process and discuss your accident and injury at any stage and would be delighted to hear from you to assist in any way possible.
